Congratulations to FHS artists, Robin Nicolls, Ava DeBoo, Zoey LaMere, Logan Johnson, and Bradly Steber. Each artist earned an award at the ASA exhibition on Monday night. The art was judged by Amy Vos Dillinger of KCAD, Nick Naudi of MIAD, Alex Fekete of NMU, and Rozlin Opolka of Frostic at WMU. Award winners received a handwritten note from the college rep that chose their work as well as a piece of stained glass created by local artist Laura Bailey & glass artist William Reichle.
This week Karissa Smith, Zoey LaMere, Ava DeBoo, and Robin Nicolls participated in an art portfolio review with college representatives from Kendall School of Art & Design, Western Michigan University, and Northern Michigan University as a part of the Association of Student Artists' Art Exhibition. As a result of their review, Karissa was given a scholarship to KCAD and Robin was awarded a scholarship to Western Michigan's Frostic School of Art, both are juniors at FHS. Zoey will be attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. She was awarded a scholarship to MIAD during last year's portfolio review.

Students in Mrs. Smith’s 9th grade history classes and Mrs. Johnson’s 8th grade ELA classes recently competed in the National History Day competition. National History Day is a competition in which students in grades 6-12 choose a topic and dive deeply into the past by conducting extensive research. They then present their conclusions and evidence through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites, moving through a series of contest levels where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators. Through this process, students develop skills in communication, project management, and historical thinking.
Students began their research in early January and had their local competition in late February. On March 9th, students traveled to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for the regional competition where 20 of our students qualified for the state competition at UW Madison on April 20th. Congratulations to all who participated in this event. We are very proud of your hard work!
